2019 CSA Newsletter - Week 16

It’s week 16 and we’re down to just 4 weeks remaining in the 2019 farm share program! It has been an incredibly rewarding first season. I am so grateful to have had the support of our 31 members. In 2020, we hope to have 50 members on board to help us enjoy the bounty from Heart & Spade Farms--please help us spread the word! Early bird registration for the 2020 season is open!! Sign up by November 30 to save $25 off next year’s share (that’s like getting one week free)! Please visit our website to learn more and register.

Alec generously shared his free time with me at the farm this past week during the fall break. Our busiest days at the farm are on Thursdays, when we start work harvesting at 7AM & put our harvest knives down around 5PM. Fridays aren’t much easier & are full of heavy lifting as we transport our haul from farm to truck to loading dock to pick up site to truck to donation center. Our shoulders are tired at the end of the day!

We are proud to have donated over $3000 worth of produce this season to the Oregon Food Bank, OHSU’s Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Center, and to our local food pantry at Genesis Community Fellowship. Going into this farm season, we planned for a surplus to ensure CSA member satisfaction & room to grow our markets during the farm season. We have done our best to share the wealth with our members, who have supported us in our pilot season, and to also stretch the bounty to community members beyond the scope of the CSA. Our produce means the world to us, as it is the product of countless hours of hard work & planning. We are proud to have wasted almost no food this season, despite our incredibly abundant yields, and are so honored to be able to share it with so many individuals.

We’re only $75 away from raising enough funds to give 2 shares to patients affected by types-1 & 2 diabetes next season!! Thank you to our friends who have contributed so far. Please help us reach our GoFundMe campaign goal of funding 10 shares for patients next season. A donation of $25 will feed two households for one week, and a donation of $500 will feed two households for an entire season! Any donation will help achieve the farm’s mission--to provide local, fresh, organically grown produce to those who need it most!

One final announcement--we are still taking orders for bulk tomatoes! Try your hand at canning or freeze whole tomatoes for winter AND support the farm. Order 10 lbs. for only $15 by responding to this email! We will deliver during normal share pick up hours from 3:30-5:30PM on Fridays at RLSB.
